While I was practicing law in Washington, D.C., my paternal grandfather, who was a meaningful presence in my life, passed away. Losing him led to significant periods of introspection, including questioning whether I was living my best life. I decided to immerse myself in the world of cacao and chocolate, including training in southeastern France and staying in the jungles of southern Belize to experience how cacao is grown, harvested, and transformed into chocolate.
In 2013, I founded Zivaara to share the diverse ways that chocolate and cacao can enhance our lives, including experiences we share with others, from chocolate pairings; to recipes, savory and sweet; skincare; and of course, chocolates and confections. "Zivaara,” derived from ancient South Asian languages, means "best life." Because of local and state restrictions placed on businesses due to COVID-19, we had no choice but to permanently close in 2020.
I continue to explore my firmly-held belief that chocolate, and its mother, the cacao bean, can be part of our best lives given their uses and their mood-enhancing, beautifying, and antioxidant properties.
I invite you to join me on this adventure to live our best lives.
